Stop being so protective. Go play some World of Warcraft. Sheesh. Annnnndddd moving right along on a totally different subject, today I’m going to look at a popular Arcane/Frost Mage Raiding build. I had the chance to test this out two days ago. A guildie and I traded mages during the raid and this build is actually a lot of fun. I’m fire, but here are the perks to this Arcane Frost Mage Raiding Build.

Arcane/Frost Build

Before we even jump into the talens, I’d like to express that this build is by no means the be all end all of Arcane/Frost builds. This is just a platform for your tastes. This can be customized, and any given Arcane spec greatly varies with the play styles of different users. In other words, this isn’t set in stone. Aso, there are a lot of non DPS spells in this build that have been taken for utility, but if you find yourself not needed them, you can always switch them out.

One of the talents that makes this build so powerful is Arcane Power. Not only do you have the ability to pump out a lot more damage, but it can be popped at a moments notice. This is the pure definition of versatilty. If you’ve got to take down a boss fast, you can do that. If you need controlled steady DPS, you can just wait to pop this. It’s a great utiility and I don’t believe that any Arcane Mage Raiding in World of Warcraft should be without it.

Icy Veins provides an oh, shit button and should be combined when possible with Evocation. Odds are, when you’re using Evocation, you’re really hurting for mana, and Icy Veins allows you to make sure you get that regeneration. It’s a neat little combo and I’d look into trying it if you haven’t already.

Let’s go over the rotation, because without it, the build is essentially just theory. Arcane Mages essentially have two schools of thought on rotation when it boils right down to it. One is for sustained DPS, and one for Burst.

Arcane Mage Spell Burst Rotation

Arcane Blast x2, Arcane Missiles, Presence of Mind, Fireball, Fire Blast, Repeat.

Obviously Presence of Mind won’t always be available, so during that time, skip Fireball. Fireball can also be replaced with any other damage spell you deem more effective at the time. For instance, you’ll might use Frostbolt during trash clearing. If you decide to sacrifice the frost aspect of this build, you can use Pyroblast for even more damage.

Arcane Mage Sustained DPS Rotation

Arcane Blast x4, Arcane Missiles, Repeat

There you go, everything you need to start raiding as an Arcane Mage in World of Warcraft. Well…everything except gear….and enchants…and gems…and a raid group.

YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN! Have fun playing World of Warcraft!

Well, well, well…First Blizzard made Frost good, then they made Fire good…now we’re torn between which to spec with our World of Warcraft Mages. Why don’t we spec both? Hey, there’s an idea! Ok, Without further delay…The Mage FrostFire Build.

World of Warcraft FrostFire Build

The build is pretty self explanatory, but in order to take full advantage of it, you’re going to need the proper rotation. Enchants and Glyphs don’t hurt either, but we’ll save that for another time since that’s not supposed to be covered in this World of Warcraft post.

Now, Many Mages don’t know what “Spell Rotation” is. That’s fine. After all, before you start raiding, there was really no need for a spell rotation as you leveled through WoW. Essentially, Spell Rotation is the optimal order in which you should cast certain spells to do maximum DPS while raiding.

FrostFire Mage Spell Rotation

The first spell you want to cast while using FrostFire spec in World of Warcraft is Living Bomb. The reason for this is that the spell, though a damage over time spell, doesn’t generate much threat upon initial cast…because it doesn’t really go off until later on. So right off the bat, you’re starting the ticking of the time bomb.

Next in the WoW FrostFire Mage Rotation is Scorch. Now Scorch is used in various different mage builds due to it’s debuffing capability if you’ve taken Improved Scorch. This is also the case here. This is going to up your damage, but also any other caster within the group (and there will always be another caster or twenty).

Next, FrostFire Bolt. This is the bread and butter spell of the WoW mage build, and this is where the Scorch debuff starts helping you out.

NOTE: If Hot Streak Pops, blow out that Instant Pyroblast then go back into the rotation, provided you aren’t going to pull the mob from the tank.

Obviously, when the Scorch Debuff wears off, you’ll want to start over with Living Bomb, then Scorch and repeat this rotation. Though it seems simple and…yes…a little bit boring, this is the correct World of Warcraft FrostFire Mage Rotation for raiding and I guarantee you…your damage will go up! Cheers!

Hello friend. Ever felt like your frostbolts weren’t cold enough? Ever felt like that Fire Mage across the way was poking fun at you. NO LONGER! We all know that in World of Warcraft, the Frost Mage is the king of control. But what if you were also the king of damage? That’s what this article is all about. Let’s maximize that damage! Is it cold in here?

First of all, any good DPS comes from good talents right? Let’s look at the key talents we’ll need to make those frosty bolts even…frostier…ok, I’ll admit that was lame. Anyway…

5/5 Improved Frost Bolt: Frost Bolt is your bread and butter damage spell, so you’ve got take this talent to buff it out. That .5 seconds off of the spell doesn’t seem like much, but think of this this way – If you cast 6 frostbolts without this talent, it would take 18 seconds. With the talent, you’re looking at 15 seconds. Thats quite some time when you add it up.

Ice Shards doubles the damage you deal from critical strikes. This is one of the key talents that is going to put you up the damage range of Fire Mages.

Improved Cone of Cold is a necessity. If you’re wanting to deal AOE Damage with your mage, this is the AOE spell you’ll be using. Not only is this spell extremely efficient, it also has the ability to do 100% more damage if you’ve got Ice Shards, and if you’ve got Shatter…well…read on.

Shatter is the talent that will put you over the top, you’ve got an amazing critical chance if youre target is frozen now. This stacks very very nicely with Ice Shards!

This is the World of Warcraft Mage Guide / Mage Leveling Guide you’ve been waiting for. WHen you start a mage, you’re really embarking on a new journey. No other class is like you, and no other class posesses the potential power that you do.
Mages though, are extremely squishy, and you’re going to have to learn how to manuever your way around different landscapes and terrain in order to level up a mage effectively. Leveling a mage means putting yourself out of harms way at all times, and preferably, NEVER getting hit by your opponenet. I mean, you’re in a robe for goodness sake. That’s not very much protection!

The best place to solo level up a mage is in a wide open field or place where there is a lot of running room. I say this because you’ll need it if you are to win battles without getting hit when leveling up a mage. Start by pulling with Frostbolt, Arcane Missiles, or Pyroblast (depending on your mage talent build), then keep blasting them with those spells until they’re in range of Frost Nova, this will freeze them in place. After than, simply run away and start the process over again.

Note: If you’re spec’d fire, you’ll want to take Blase Wave as it is just like Frost Nova but dazes them. This gives you another utility spells that you’ll want to use in the case of them resisted, or popping out of Frost Nova early.

Dragon’s breath is another great way to slow your opponent down. It does an incredible amount of damage to the opponent(s) and if you’re spec’d right, it’ll daze them for a good amount of time.

There are essentially two ways to level up as a mage.

1) Killing one mob at a time

Killing one mob at a time is great because you can be extremely efficient and you don’t have to worry about dying much becuase there is little threat that the single mob is going to kill you. Essentially, you just spam Frostbolt, Fireball, or Arcane missiles.

2) AoE Leveling

AoE leveling relies heavily of Frost, you’ll want to pull with Improved Blizzard (slowing them down). This allows you to rope up multiple different mobs and slow them ALL down at once. When they get close, Frost Nova, back up and Blizzard again. When they get close, COLD SNAP (refreshing your cooldowns) Frost Nova, then Blizzard again. They should be pretty close to dead at this time.

Good luck leveling your Mage in World of Warcraft!
