Hey Mages, has it ever occurred to you that there is another option besides just spamming Frostbolt when leveling up? Well, there is.

Hey Mages, has it ever occurred to you that there is another option besides just spamming Frostbolt when leveling up? Well, there is. I’ve personally used this to level up and it’s worked out pretty good for me. The only thing is, it’s basically pure grinding. If you’re not into that (which is understandable), then you might want to use a different build. I will tell you one thing though: This build is pretty sickeningly fast if you have the patience and the gall to grind instead of quest. If you want to level up your frost Mage fast, this is a great choice. AoE away Frost Mages!

Here’s the build

Before I get started listing the talents, let’s run over the general idea of the build. The build is not made to be efficient against one opponent, and perhaps it will actually be bad against one opponent. The build shines when you round up a bunch of mobs in an area and essentially “kite” them around while doing damage to all of them with your AoE spells. That’s the theory behind the build…and the theory works.

The preparation for the fight is: Ice Barrier (if you’re below the level you need to get Ice Barrier, use Mana Shield and a Mana Gem), Round up enemies while shielded.

Frost Mage AoE Rotation:

Frost Nova, Back Up, Flamestrike, Blizzard (They’ll come out of Frost Nova in the middle of this), Run away (they’re chilled), Cone of Cold, Cold Snap, Frost Nova, Cone of Cold, Blizzard. This will leave any normal foes dead as dead. With this rotation, you can easily take on 20 to 30 enemies at once. I took my Mage into the Scarlet Monastery Cathedral with this build, ran up to Mograine, Frost Bolted him and killed every single Mob in the instance at once when the max level cap was 70. This is the power of this build.

Breaking down the talents, first of all, we’ve taken Ice Floes for that all important cooldown shortening ability. You’re going to be using these cooldowns quite often during AoE Grinding, especially Frost Nova. Without Frost Nova, this build simply does not work. Truly, anything you can do to buff out Frost Nova is completely 100% necessary for this build to work. Trust me, you don’t want 30 Pirates resisting Frost Nova. Not fun. GLYPH OF FROST NOVA is so necessary for this build it’s sick.

Icy Veins is nice for when they actually get to you before Blizzard is over. Artic Reach is a pure necessity. Standing futher away = more spells before they get back to you. Permafrost is there to slow them even more.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT take Frostbite. Frostbite messed up the whole plan. We want EVERY MOB to either be frozen, chilled, or unfrozen at the same time, never at different times. We want to keep them all together as we AoE them down at a steady rate. Frostbite freezes some and leaves other only chilled. This is extremely bad when leveling with a Frost Mage AoE Build in World of Warcraft.

Other essential talents:

Improved Cone of Cold

Improved Blizzard (for certain)

Cold Snap

Well, well, well…First Blizzard made Frost good, then they made Fire good…now we’re torn between which to spec with our World of Warcraft Mages. Why don’t we spec both? Hey, there’s an idea! Ok, Without further delay…The Mage FrostFire Build.

World of Warcraft FrostFire Build

The build is pretty self explanatory, but in order to take full advantage of it, you’re going to need the proper rotation. Enchants and Glyphs don’t hurt either, but we’ll save that for another time since that’s not supposed to be covered in this World of Warcraft post.

Now, Many Mages don’t know what “Spell Rotation” is. That’s fine. After all, before you start raiding, there was really no need for a spell rotation as you leveled through WoW. Essentially, Spell Rotation is the optimal order in which you should cast certain spells to do maximum DPS while raiding.

FrostFire Mage Spell Rotation

The first spell you want to cast while using FrostFire spec in World of Warcraft is Living Bomb. The reason for this is that the spell, though a damage over time spell, doesn’t generate much threat upon initial cast…because it doesn’t really go off until later on. So right off the bat, you’re starting the ticking of the time bomb.

Next in the WoW FrostFire Mage Rotation is Scorch. Now Scorch is used in various different mage builds due to it’s debuffing capability if you’ve taken Improved Scorch. This is also the case here. This is going to up your damage, but also any other caster within the group (and there will always be another caster or twenty).

Next, FrostFire Bolt. This is the bread and butter spell of the WoW mage build, and this is where the Scorch debuff starts helping you out.

NOTE: If Hot Streak Pops, blow out that Instant Pyroblast then go back into the rotation, provided you aren’t going to pull the mob from the tank.

Obviously, when the Scorch Debuff wears off, you’ll want to start over with Living Bomb, then Scorch and repeat this rotation. Though it seems simple and…yes…a little bit boring, this is the correct World of Warcraft FrostFire Mage Rotation for raiding and I guarantee you…your damage will go up! Cheers!

Playing as a fire Mage in World of Warcraft used to mean playing against the grain. Everybody in their right mind was Frost, as for good reason. Now Fire is becoming more popular, with Arcane slowly gaining behind it. Mages are more balanced now in World of Warcraft, so there is a need and a want for Rotation talk amongst us. So I present to you the WoW Fire Mage Spell Rotation, now please…don’t scorch me.

First: Fireball

Second: Scorch

Third: Scorch

Fourth: Fireball

Fifth: Scorch

Fourth: Fireball

Now this might look a little odd to you, and It should. Why are there only two spells in a fire mage’s rotation? Well, there aren’t really. Scorch allows you to save mana and has a high crit rate which will proc ignite. Also, you’ve got that 15% more vulnerability to fire damage if you take Improved Scorch.

Say hello to 15% more damage from Ignite, Scorch, Fireball and Pyroblasts.

This is the World of Warcraft Mage Guide / Mage Leveling Guide you’ve been waiting for. WHen you start a mage, you’re really embarking on a new journey. No other class is like you, and no other class posesses the potential power that you do.
Mages though, are extremely squishy, and you’re going to have to learn how to manuever your way around different landscapes and terrain in order to level up a mage effectively. Leveling a mage means putting yourself out of harms way at all times, and preferably, NEVER getting hit by your opponenet. I mean, you’re in a robe for goodness sake. That’s not very much protection!

The best place to solo level up a mage is in a wide open field or place where there is a lot of running room. I say this because you’ll need it if you are to win battles without getting hit when leveling up a mage. Start by pulling with Frostbolt, Arcane Missiles, or Pyroblast (depending on your mage talent build), then keep blasting them with those spells until they’re in range of Frost Nova, this will freeze them in place. After than, simply run away and start the process over again.

Note: If you’re spec’d fire, you’ll want to take Blase Wave as it is just like Frost Nova but dazes them. This gives you another utility spells that you’ll want to use in the case of them resisted, or popping out of Frost Nova early.

Dragon’s breath is another great way to slow your opponent down. It does an incredible amount of damage to the opponent(s) and if you’re spec’d right, it’ll daze them for a good amount of time.

There are essentially two ways to level up as a mage.

1) Killing one mob at a time

Killing one mob at a time is great because you can be extremely efficient and you don’t have to worry about dying much becuase there is little threat that the single mob is going to kill you. Essentially, you just spam Frostbolt, Fireball, or Arcane missiles.

2) AoE Leveling

AoE leveling relies heavily of Frost, you’ll want to pull with Improved Blizzard (slowing them down). This allows you to rope up multiple different mobs and slow them ALL down at once. When they get close, Frost Nova, back up and Blizzard again. When they get close, COLD SNAP (refreshing your cooldowns) Frost Nova, then Blizzard again. They should be pretty close to dead at this time.

Good luck leveling your Mage in World of Warcraft!

You sit back and look at the full house your new hot spot tavern has drawn in. You take in all the sounds, the music, laughter and the sound of coin constantly hitting your hand. The fireplace crackles and spits out more warmth for the room. You sit back pleased with yourself and all that you have accomplished here tonight and hope the same will happen many nights to come.
The door slides open and you see a very tiny gnome walk through the door. He is covered in a deep black robe trimmed with a blazing red thread. He approaches the bar and pulls himself up to the seat. He motions over to you, and as you draw close he asks for a mead. You stare for a few moments then inform your new short stack guest that his kinda isn’t welcome here, and hope that he would leave without making a scene.
He nods and slowly dismounts his stool and heads toward the door. Very few make eye contact with him as he approaches the exit. he reaches up to the door handle and pause for a moment, he slowly turns and glares back at you. His eyes start to burn red and he motions his hand at the fireplace, Flames burst over the room, your once laughing crowed now scream and run from the flames. In moments your pride and joy is a flaming inferno you rush towards the back exit and in a flash that short gnome blinks in front of you, hands curled out in front of him, he unleashes one final burst of flame. Right before your engulfed you cant help but think…all he wanted was a mead.

That is the essence of the short tempered fire mage who loves nothing more then to burst out large amounts of damage, and laugh as his foes burn to a crisp.

Fire Mage PvE Builds

Fire Mage PvE Build

Here is a quick cheat sheet to a move list to draw out the most dps from your Fire Mage.

Scorch – Living Bomb – Frostfire Bolt -Fire Blast – Fireball- your instant cast Pyroblast

Now for the play style for PvE, your goal as a WoW fire mage is to help the group by downing mobs and bosses as fast and efficiently as possible. For groups of three or more you might want to throw around your Dragon’s Breath, Living Bomb and Blast Wave. For bosses, look to the move order above and remember your Combustion and Icy Veins . No matter how great your damage is, remember that there will always be some healer prick Aka Kagaree asking for a food table.

Fire Mage PvP Builds

Fire Mage PvP Build

As for a move list…you really cant rely on one for Fire Mage PvP.

PvP for a Mage in World of Warcraft of any build can be tricky sometimes. The overall goal is to stay with friends and find the right opportunity to drop Living Bomb on someone and start blasting targets with every spell in your arsenal. Always remember that in tight situations Frost Nova followed by a Blink can save your cloth wearing ass from death. Of course Ice Block is a fun way to piss some people off like a god dam pally bubble does. Again…Kagaree (ass hole)

I hope this helps all you World of Warcraft fire mages out there and remember…fire is the cleansing.
